There was a time when Swede and I spent a lot of time toodling about Northern Virgnia, just outside of DC, stopping in and out of wineries. I have a favorite there—Aspen Dale, it’s simply magical, I tell you—and we found a handful of others that we thought were absolutely terrific, and some that were meh, and some that were downright unpalatable. There are many things about living in DC that I miss, and the wineries so close by is one of them.
Thankfully, Wisconsin is not so far from Chicago, and neither is Michigan, home of the Round Barn Winery with a magnificent tasting room and outdoor area with live music and picnic tables. It’s a winery off the interstate and in the middle of acre upon acre of corn fields.
It doesn’t get more appropriate than that.
