Last weekend I went to my 10-year college reunion. After a night out carousing with friends and reliving old memories I discovered that it is much easier to live the college life when you are actually still in college.
Translation: Holy Christ, I need a nap. And some water.
Given that my college is named after the Virgin mother, it is to be expected that there are statues of the good woman everywhere you turn. In the dorms, in the classroom buildings, in the courtyard, hanging out at the shuttle stop, in the dining hall, keeping score at the tennis courts, you name it, Mary is there. You could not get away from the woman if you tried. Look to your left, she’s there. Try to lose her to your right, and she’ll practically tap you on the shoulder and say, “Here I am! Peace be with you!”
And always, always with a look on her face like, “I pray for you. Really, I do. You and your liver.”
