We interrupt our regularly scheduled recap of my trip to Morocco (wah-waaahhh) to bring you this important announcement:

This week is Random Acts of Kindness Week. Maybe hold a door for someone, pay someone’s toll for them (though that’s gotten much harder with E-Z pass), or compliment a stranger’s coat or shoes or hat or choice of lipstick color. It’s amazing how the smallest kindnesses can go the farthest.

And while it’s always nice to do something nice for a stranger or a loved one, or a strange loved one, don’t forget to be kind to yourself. If you are like most people I know—myself included—you are hardest on and give the most grief to yourself. Why do we do this? I’m not a doctor, I don’t play one on TV, and while I find the inner workings of our brains and psyches to be fascinating, I don’t exactly know how they do the fascinating things that they do.

But my lack of scientific knowledge is beside the point. The point is, while you’re being kind to others, be kind to yourself. Give yourself a compliment, and believe it. Give yourself some time to rest, and take it. Take yourself out for a cocktail or a manicure or to the bookstore for the latest bodice ripper or Pulitzer winner. (There’s no judging here.)

Those old L’Oreal commercials were right. You are worth it.
